Deacons
The Fort Foote Baptist Church Deacon Body consists of men
who are first called by God, then approved by the Church in accordance with
Acts 6:1-7. The Deacon's role is a servant role. They serve under the
leadership and spiritual direction of the Pastor, in prayer, support, and
fellowship. Each Deacon is assigned a number of families to have watch over
and to assist with their needs. The Deacon Family Ministry is designed to
promote peace, harmony and a spirit of cooperation and unity among the
membership. The Deacons also lead the Church in the achievement of it's
mission, to minister the Gospel to believers and unbelievers, to care for
the Church members and others in the community, and to be consistent
examples as Christian role models in the church. The Deacons are charged
with the oversight of all the ministries in the Church to ensure that they
are functioning in accordance with the word of God and that the Ministries
will bring honor and glory to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The Deacons
are charged with being peacemakers in times of conflict and to prayerfully
find resolution. The office of the Deacon demands a high level of
commitment, a mature knowledge of the faith, and dedication to fellowship
and service. 1 Timothy 3:13 summarizes it best-- " For those who have served
well as Deacons obtain for themselves a high standing and great confidence
in the faith that is in Christ Jesus, The service of the Deacon is one of
the richest and most rewarding walks with the Lord.

Deaconess
In accordance with the teachings and examples of the New
Testament, particularly the Apostle Paul’s recognition of Phoebe in Romans
16:1-2 as “a helper of many and of myself as well”, the Deaconess should be
zealous in making a difference in the lives of the women in the church,
imparting the love, wisdom and resources that God has blessed them with.
It is the duty of the Deaconesses to first assist with the Ordnances of the
Church. Deaconesses will be assigned to the Ordnance Committee to assist in
the preparation of Communion and assist female candidates for Baptism.
Assistance in the ordinance of Communion may include caring for the utensils
and linens and preparation of the elements for serving.
The Deaconess, when requested, should accompany a Deacon when visiting a
female member of the Church.
The Deaconess may be called upon to provide limited home care for elderly or
sick female members. In addition, this care could consist of food
preparation, Bible reading and prayer.
The Deaconess must be alert for every opportunity to minister to the younger
women of the Church. As a mature woman has been taught to have behavior as
becometh holiness, likewise, must she teach the young women according to
Titus 2:4-5.
